Most Guatemalans plan and build, with the entire family, a Nativity Scene called a “Nacimiento’’ or “Belen’’. They do that because the ancient Mayan culture mixed with Spanish Christian creates the unique Christmas tradition of Guatemala. Christmas in Guatemala is not at the same time as our Christmas because our Christmas is in December 25th and theirs is in December 16th through December 24th. Fun fact, on Christmas Eve when the clock turns to midnight, a figure of the Christ Child is added to the Nacimiento with great ceremony.
