The Jews were called the children of Israel or Israelites. God gave his word and promised to help the Israelite leader Moses and his people to escape the horrible slavery. God kept his word and punished the Egyptians by having them suffer ten plagues. God had the pharaoh begging on his knees to stop punishing the Egyptians and he would let the Israelites leave.
