the festival carnival dates back from many centuries ago. It was imported by the Portuguese. It was brought over to the Americas many many years ago. the most famous carnival is usually in the amazing city of Barranquilla. It is a festival of joy. Usually they celebrate with masks. They also put head statues on the floor during the carnival. All the people that participate in the carnival get picked almost one year before!
In Barranquilla the parade starts with parade cars. Then the carnival queen makes the crowd cheer with her amazing dance. Another interesting person is King Momo. the person that gets picked to be this character has to have been in the carnival since a child.
Arepas are a type of bread. They can be served with almost anything. Usually you serve arepas with hot butter and cheese for extra taste. You can also serve them topped with tuna, chicken, corn, fried onions, or beef.
